Set Bonuses: 2pc T8 vs. 4pc T9
Seems like everyone is blogging about the balance set bonuses; primarily the comparison between 2pc T8 vs. 4pc T9. You can check out Graylo’s opinion and Randomsmo’s (new moonkin blogger!).
From Graylo’s math on the topic, its seemingly a given that i258 T9 outweighs everything prior; the shear stat bonus of i226 T8 to i258 T9 is insane. i258 T9 is going to be scarce for awhile, so the question really is: 2pc T8 or 4pc T9.245?
Graylo’s theorycrafting proves that 2pc T8 > 4pc T9.245, but we know that theorycrafting oftentimes doesn’t result in the best practical course of action. Randomsmo’s points saying that 4pc T9.245 > 2pc T8 are also valid – less RNG, more burst DPS, a more flexible rotation, etc.
What do I think?
For now, I’m sticking with the school of thought that 2pc T8 > 4pc T9. My main playstyle and gearing choices are based upon improving my single-target DPS, in optimal conditions. I will not make my gear choices based on the fact that on some fights, I may find myself moving often or would like less RNG on some fights. I love to see HUGE crits, and 2pc T8 helps me obtain those.
That said, one day I would love to be able to equip 4pc T9.258, but that day is a long while from here, since I am still in the app guild and am not even accruing DKP yet.
Thoughts?

I actually just did math for this this morning (check TMR for details). Surprisingly, I found that 2T8 was better than 4T9, even at iLvl 258. I haven't had the math confirmed yet, but it seems relatively well received, if mostly surprising. I'd like to see what Graylo has to say, as there may be some things that I simply got wrong. We'll see what people think over the next few days. Would certainly make gearing up a bit easier if 2T8/2T9 remained BiS at iLvl 258.
Actually 4t9 will do more to let you see "HUGE" crits. 2t8 lets you see crits more often, but the biggest ones aren't quite as large.

i used 2t8 untill i got my 4th t9245 and my dps certainly shot up when i made the switch. now i'm seeing 6.4k dps on fights like jaraxus in 25heroic, when b4 it was more around 5.5-5.8, so ya get the t9 4 pc.
