Running Pre-WoTLK Content for Fun (and gold)
Edit: Apparently, since patch 3.0.8, gold has been significantly reduced on some/all of Pre-WOTLK bosses (I wrote this post like last week). Any specifics?
You could call me a gold whore. With so little options for raids, and the fact that I am pretty fail at levelling (although I have levelled a shammy to level 20 this week!), I’ve found myself finding ways to make gold. I’ll post later on today or maybe tomorrow about something else I did (I respecc’ed resto for my Naxx 10 pug last night), but this post is only about gold.
1) At least on my server, Void Crystals are selling for less than Large Prismatic Shards. – I’ve been buying up Voids by the stack, Void Shattering them, and making 100% profit on each Prismatic I sell. Check the prices on your server, this is an almost effortless way to double your investment. Don’t put all your shards in at the same time though, or you will drop the price. I usually put up 5-7 at a time.
2) Use your professions to their full extent. – I always thought that my combination of Tailoring/Enchanting was epic fail, as far as making gold was concerned. Still, I started making BoE Tailoring gear (particularly the Epics and Frostsavage set), with mats from both Tailoring and Enchanting, and those thing sold like hotcakes, at a very nice ROI (Return-On-Investment). Get some rare patterns, and dominate the AH on a particular item.
3) Lead Pugs. – This might be a little controversial, but since I don’t need any gear from 10-mans anymore, I’ve begun leading my old raids for gold. I have a macro that I spam right before everyone zones in (and get saved), that tells them a few things, the most important being that BoE epics are auto-looted to me, for leading and organizing the raid. I tell them they still have the chance to drop group and no hard feelings, and I’ve had noone drop group. Some people think that its not cool for me to do things like this, but if you warn people ahead of time, what’s the harm. It’s also my belief that with the easy availability of epic loot for everyone, noone really “needs” any BoE drop.
4) Run Pre-WoTLK raids for easy gold.
Onyxia
Druids are among the classes that can easily solo Onyxia, and its really not that difficult to solo. I’ve solo’ed Ony as balance as well as resto, and I’ve never wiped on her. While it is possible to solo her, I’ve found it easier to 2-man Onyxia with a shadow priest. The shadow priests healing will actually heal more damage than Onyxia will deal if you are tanking in Moonkin form. Solo’ing Ony should give you anywhere from 150-180 gold, 2-manning should give you exactly half of that, so about 70-90 gold for each of you. Its not bad for a 5 minute fight and paying 5g for a portal to Theramore.
Magtheridon
Don’t expect to solo Mags, but you sure can 5-6 man for some pretty good gold. Here’s the group I’ve used to run it:
1 Geared Healer; 1 Enhance Shammy; 1 Feral Druid Tank; 1 Warrior/Pally/DK tank; 1-2 Good DPS.
Notice how you have 2 tanks, its vital for the adds. DK tank is actually really good for this fight, and here’s why: You can’t just group up all of the ads and AoE them down; they heal each other. So you have the feral druid or other tank tank all the adds, and you have the 2nd tank taunt/DG 1 add at a time, away from the rest of the adds. The DPS will have to focus fire each add down rather quickly. Make sure you assign the 5 clickers you need, clicking will still make this fight much easier for your healer(s). If you don’t have Pre-WOTLK DBM installed, just run to your cubes after everytime he bounces you around the room. Pop Heroism whenever you want. That’s basically the whole fight (apart from the aoe damage at 30% he does.
There are a few more ways I haven’t listed, but these should get you started.
