Patch 3.3 Squawk and Awe Fix

Update: You can just download the updated version now from WoWInterface or Curse.com.  GOGOGOGO Moonkins!

As everyone knows, Patch 3.3 launched this week, bringing with it cool things such as the new LFG system, Icecrown Citadel, and a cool new 5 man dungeon.  As most patches do, 3.3 broke some of my addons, most of which are fixed within 1-2 days of the patch being launched, with the exception of Squawk and Awe.

At any rate, it looks like the addon itself won’t be updated, and most other addons to track Eclipse & its cooldown are relatively subpar.  Raiding without SAA is painful; my DPS drops substantially, and I forget which Eclipse I’m on, and so forth.

A fix for Squawk and Awe was released somewhere on the EJ forums (not sure who to give props to on it), but either way, I don’t have the appropriate programs on my computer to edit .lua files.  So thanks to @tmayr on Twitter for shooting me over a link to download the file that will fix Squawk and Awe on your computer.

To Fix Squawk and Awe, Do the Following:

  1. Download the edited LUA file by CLICKING HERE.  Alternatively, if you have the software to edit .lua files yourself, you can just copy/paste into your file called SquawkandAwe.lua from this file.
  2. Open World of Warcraft > Interface > Addons > Squawk and Awe and replace the current file in there with this file.
  3. VOILA! Your Squawk and Awe will work EXACTLY as before :)

I meant to blog about my first impressions on Patch 3.3 and Icecrown Citadel, but I don’t have time right now.  Keep chugging away, and by the way, I am loving the new LFG system.  Its AWESOME (even if I do have to go resto just to get into groups fast).

Laterz,

Ballerkin

Heh, anyways, i believe that the latest update of S&A works just fine since it includes the same fix, haven't updated yet since it should be the same, and with the manual fix it works just perfect.

Just to be clear, the fix was posted here (http://elitistjerks.com/f32/t35477-squawkandawe/p... and it MIGHT have some sort of performance hit on your machine, so please, post there, let Adoriele (the author of S&A) and copialinex (the author of the "fix") know how is it working for you :) .

    Okay, so a few things…

    1) I think Adoriele was going to fix this. (He originally said he wasn't, as he's not playing any more.) I don't have a source for this, but I think I remember reading it.

    2) Thorne, over at TMR, mentioned that he has not noticed any performance issues with the fix.

    3) I would almost guarantee that you have the proper programs to open and edit Lua files. Notepad, WordPad, or any other text editor will work, your OS just doesn't associate the .lua extension with anything yet.

    1) Yeah, looks like its already been updated on Curse and WoWInterface lol. Leave it to me to blog about old news xD

    2) I didn't notice anything either.

    3) Yeah, found that out today too, lol. Was mostly freaking out because I couldn't edit it before the raid, and I usually get home right as soon as our raid starts.

    Oh me :D

Yep, I use Notepad to edit my .lua files – implemented the fix Adoriele posted on EJ, and it worked fine last night. No noticeable performance drop.

And even though I’m somewhat less geared compared to him, I gave our best warlock a run for his money on the damage meters on the second boss in ICC25 last night. I was right on his tail the whole time, had to battle rez someone and innervate a healer, and then passed him when he died in the last 5 seconds of the fight, heh.

Looks like the Eclipse boost plus switching to 4T9 was more than enough to make up for losing WiseEclipse and 2T8. :)

There is an even newer version on EJ right now, that has all the bugs worked out of it.

Confirmed that Adoriele has re-released his version. It may or may not be the same as other versions that are floating around.

I'm also noticing a pretty decent DPS increase just since getting 2T9 (loving 3k+ moonfire crits :D ). Before S&A was updated it was a most painful experience!

Shame with my new boost in DPS that I have to go tank most of the time when using the new LFG, otherwise it's usually an annoyingly long wait :(
