Making Gold the ‘Baller’ (kin) Way

What I’m looking for from you guys are some of the ways you make gold, preferably by selling things on the AH.  I’m going to share a few of the items that I sell consistently that keep my gold stash growing, even though raiding (enchants, flasks, repair bills) are very costly.  Obviously the profit margin varies significantly per your server’s economy, but the server I am currently on is a high population server (actually, Illidan is FULL), so that generally means that while things may sell for cheaper, they sell at a faster rate.

I am by no means an expert gold maker, I know people at gold cap (200k+), and even a few people with several toons at gold cap.  Still, based on the minimal amount of time I take each day to make gold, I am pleased with my results.  Feel free to share your experience in flipping/selling items on the AH in the comments section below — trust me, only about 1k or so people read this blog a day, and there are over 13million WoW players.  There is enough gold to be made by us all :D   That said, below are a few of the items I sell continuously:

Brilliant Spellthread & Sapphire Spellthread

Whether you are on a high population or a brand new server, these should sell like hot cakes all the time.  Why?  Every single caster has to choose between either one of these two, unless they are a Tailor.  Easy enough.  The mats are as simple as: 4x Eternal Fire (for Sapphire), or 4x Eternal Life (for Brilliant), 1x Frozen Orb, and 4x Iceweb Spider Silk.  The eternals can cost you anywhere from 15g-30g each, the Frozen Orbs are down to about 20g each.  The Iceweb Spider Silk, however, is a little trickier to find.  The prices are often inflated, but average around 5g each on the AH.  If you really want to keep your margins low — go out and farm a ton of this.  I think there is a cave near the Hodir dailies place to farm this.  Either way, let’s say you pay 20g for each of the eternals (80g) + 20g for the Frozen Orb + 20g for the 4x Iceweb Spider Silk, your cost per spellthread is 120g.  Check the prices on your server, but Brilliant usually stays at about 180g/each on my server, and Sapphire is usually 200g+.  Easy money for very little effort, and very little risk of losing your gold.

Wispcloak Selling

Ah.  The Wispcloak.  Easy enough of a pattern to obtain (I think you only have to do all the Northrend Heroics), and depending on your server, can either suck to sell or make you rich.  Back on Stormscale, I made a KILLING selling these, and that’s back when the mats could easily cost me 500g-700g (Siren’s Tear were VERY expensive in T7 content).  During T8 content, these stopped selling on my old, medium population server, and I stopped selling them.

However, in Illidan, I’m pushing a couple of these a week, never having more than 1 on the AH at any given time.  They mats are super cheap (6x Eternal Life = around 120g; 1x Frozen Orb = 20g; 4x Eternal Water = around 20g; and some Imbued Frostweave [75 Frostweave, 10 Infinite Dust]).  Fortunately, I am a Tailor/Enchanter, so I already have tons of Frostweave and Dust sitting around in my inventory, so I can produce these for around 160g or so, and easily flip them every 1-2 days for 700g+.  Damn good profit, if I do say so myself.  Keep in mind you can still get Wispcloaks and the spellthreads crafted by even if you are not a Tailor – just make friends or check your guild for a Tailor!

Flask Selling

I am not an alchemist (or herbalist), but I still flip flasks, from time to time.  Usually, the goal is not to make money when I sell flasks, but to see if I can make enough flasks and sell some to keep 1 stack of flasks for free.  And usually I manage to do just that.

I’m not going to go into too much detail here – but it all really depends on the price of Frost Lotus on your server.  Flasks on my server go for about 25-30g each, and Frost Lotus is usually 35g+.  Since you get 2 flasks for every Frost Lotus + other mats, the goal is to make sure the other mats cost you less than 25g.  Let’s say flasks are 30g each, and I spend 50g to make one (not hard to do).  It won’t be difficult to make those 50g back by selling the two flasks, but, proc’s are really what’s important.  I honestly don’t care if I make 10g from selling a few flasks — I want to see flask proc’s that make 10 flasks instead of 2, or something insane like that.

And it happens.

Flask making is a gamble, but you usually won’t lose money anyways.  Last time I bought enough mats to make 20 flasks, and walked away with 44 flasks.  I sold about 24 of them, kept 20 for myself, and still MADE GOLD.  Awesomeness.

Conclusion

Anyways, that’s really the bulk of what I continually sell.  I step into a couple of other markets sometimes, sell Crusader Orbs or even buy and sell BoEs, but these are my consistent endeavors that keep my gold stash growing.  If you guys have any items that have yielded you success consistently, let me know :D .  I’m trying to hit 100k gold in my inventory before 2010, and hopefully I won’t have anymore setbacks like losing 10k gold to a 12 year old or anything like that.

What I Expect from Icecrown Citadel

First off — I apologize for the lack of posting.  I haven’t really been too busy (I have been rocking some good grades out at school and doing OK at work), its just that, I have really only been logging into WoW to raid a little ToC, maybe a little Ony, then I’m offline.  There just really aren’t many ‘moonkin-related’ topics that I’d like to find myself blogging about.  Really.

Really quick, however — I’d like to throw a shoutout to a recently new Moonkin blogger — Quith of Quiths-Quips.com.  Stop by, show him some love, subscribe to his feed — you guys know the drill.  Just don’t overload his blog because its on my server! :P

Anyways, back on topic.  ToC raiding has really been kind of a drag.  I feel I may have touched on this in another post or comment here (or maybe even on my Twitter), but honestly, the same bosses, the same drops, 4 times a week, is overkill.  Funny enough, one thing I didn’t realize is that if you do 10man ToC heroic, and have over 45 attempts left when upon completion, you get like four pieces T9, i245.  So while at first, I was initially hesitant to switch to 4pc T9, I am considering it now, due to things like a) Tired of using T8, b) High gear score increases my epeen, c) Larger Starfire crits are cooler, d) No more worry about being increasingly near to the soft crit cap during a Lunar Eclipse, etc.  Sure, my DPS may go down, but it will also make swapping to T10 easier to do.

What are you guys expecting to experience in ICC?

I really want some of the raiding experience that BC offered, during T6 content.  I know that those days can never be brought back — I’m sure Blizzard is determined in keeping 10m/25m versions and even Heroic/Regular versions of the same dungeons available — I understand their point, but I don’t necessarily agree that everyone should be able to see the same content.  From a business perspective, its a smart move: Create one set of boss mechanics, and scale down damage and certain mechanics and create 4 instances.  Genius.

Why did I like BC so much? As much as most of us don’t like to admit it, a large portion of WoW players play WoW for some sense of pride, or something.  I remember feeling ‘cool’ (as ‘cool’ as one can feel in an MMO) when raiding Black Temple or SWP.  Not many of my friends could raid T6, and they would whisper me whenever they saw me in there.  There was also a different feeling for progression — I remember working on Reliquary of Souls for weeks.  At the time, I was in a 3x/week raiding guild, and it took us forever to down RoS.  While Ulduar had a little bit of that feeling with bosses like Mimiron/Yogg/hardmodes, the feeling of downing something new in Ulduar25 is really minimalized when you have already downed that, and 5 other hardmodes in Ulduar10.

Maybe I’m weird, who knows.  All I know is that I’m expecting Blizz to make ICC interesting.  I haven’t had a chance to step into the PTR, and part of me likes that.  I want awesome loot, interesting mechanics, fun trash, challenging things.  I really don’t want to have to run the same dungeon four times a week, and know that if I choose not to run ToC10/10H/25/25H each week, I will be behind my guildies in some way, or missed out an opportunity to get loot.  Part of me wants to go back to raid a little bit of Ulduar, but when ToC25 Heroic gear is so superior to Ulduar 25 (even hardmode) loot, who wants to go back there?

I think I’ve begun to ramble and I really should get back to doing some work — but let me know what you think.  Is there anything you guys are expecting from ICC?  On a side note, I heard the new LFG is pretty badass — can’t wait till I get a chance to try it out.  Also – let me know if there is anything you guys want me to blog about, as I’m still running low on ideas :)

Hit Rating – My Bittersweet Relationship

Is it just me, or is everyone else beginning to dislike hit as much as I do?  I obviously understand its without a question important to be at cap, and while I know this has been an ongoing problem, the sheer amount of +hit on every piece I find is annoying.  At this point in time, I think you can pretty much find +hit on any item slot available; I’m suprised the T10 balance idol isn’t something along the lines of: “Chance to increase hit rating by 200 on Starfire critical strike” or something.

So, since T7, I’ve been dealing with hit, and at some point I liked it because it helped me make gearing decisions easier sometimes; I should wear pieces that kept me around the hit cap.  If certain upgrades made me go significantly above the hit cap, then I was wasting the extra hit and could probably use another piece better itemized for me.  In ToC, it has been a pain.  I’ve been passing on upgrades simply because it would place me significantly over cap (plus I am trying to catch up on DKP), and trying to balance one’s hit cap with new upgrades is often difficult.  Although I am an enchanter and love DE’ing things, I haven’t de’ed any gear that I’ve worn since T7.  You never know what a future drop may hand you in terms of +hit.

Three of our set pieces alone (I believe: Helm, Chest, Legs), if you have the i258 version, will give you 282 hit rating alone, which is already more than you need.  That means that for every other item slot, you need to find drops that don’t have hit, meaning you are also competing with healers for most of the drops you need.  As a relatively new member to my guild, the only drops I seem to have access to are ones with +hit.  So, for example, this week, I swapped out my Pennant Cloak for the Cloak of Displacement, and had to swap out my neck (Wyrmrest Necklace of Power) with the Wail of the Valk’yr, to balance my hit rating.

In all honesty, the upgrades I made this week were not that large of upgrades, even though I switched out two i226 items for a i245 and i258.  What I really need is a new weapon and two trinkets (I need to start doing Vezax HM again…), but that’s besides the point.

Are any of you guys having trouble keeping your hit rating low?  While I understand that some gear may still be an upgrade even if you can’t use any of the +hit on it, there is some part of me that doesn’t allow me to go absurdly above the hit cap.  I am also not one to remove 1 point from Balance of Power so that I can use 2% more hit from gear.

Anyways, I hate to post sounding like I’m ranting — I really am not, and I really wanted to post to show you guys I’m still alive :) , I just haven’t been able to think of much to blog about x.x

Patch 3.3 Moonkin Notes, T10 Set Bonuses & T10 Balance Relic

While it seems that most other bloggers have already covered this, I don’t this this blog would be complete without me providing my own 2 copper, regardless of the fact that this is a little behind the times.  My patch note posts always seem to get read the most times, so don’t disappoint me this time :P

Patch 3.3 Moonkin Notes

Patch 3.3 really doesn’t change much for us — and the only thing I want to cover from 3.3 is this:

Rebirth: The cooldown on this spell has been lowered from 20 minutes down to 10 minutes. Cannot be used in Arenas.

Ummm – SWEET! I always found it a little ridiculous that combat rezzes were only up for every 2-3 attempts.  Why should some attempts not be able to take advantage of battle rezzes, and other attempts might have 5 rezzes up?  Didn’t make sense.  I am a firm believer that all cooldowns should be up every attempt — otherwise you are bound to have crappy attempts in between good attempts.  What’s the point?

It looks like Blizzard finally agrees, and they halved the cooldown on Rebirth, halved the cooldown on Soul stone’s, and halved the cooldown on Reincarnation (if specced properly).  Pretty significant changes as we prepare to step into Icecrown Citadel soon.

Sure, battle rezzing and the movement involved is a DPS killer for us as well as a mana burn, but its needed to salvage attempts when important players die.  It’s nice to have Rebirth up twice as often as it used to be, allowing us to use it more liberally without worrying if we will have it for the next boss/attempt.

Moonkin T10 Set Bonuses

Looks like they have been updated yet again (no surprise there):

2 Pieces (Balance): (Updated) When you gain Clearcasting from your Omen of Clarity talent, you deal 15% additional Nature and Arcane damage for 6 seconds.

4 Pieces (Balance): (Updated) Your critical strikes from Starfire and Wrath cause the target languish for an additional 5% of your spell’s damage over 4 seconds.

Not surprised that they buffed the set bonuses, and I did cover the old set bonuses in my previous blog post about the T10 moonkin set bonuses.  Without doing any math, I can predict that it will be safe to upgrade your current gear to 4pc T10, especially if you are using 2pc T8, 2pc T9.  I will say that if I do eventually make the change, I will REALLY miss the critting MF DoTs, and I really wish they made that a talent, or even a part of Improved Moonfire (OMG actually that would be an incredible fix to that talent!).

The 4pc is a little intriguing, and at the very least it will scale with our gear better than some of our other set bonuses.  I am also a fan of damage in the source of other spells/abilities (I used to love the trinket from H MgT that dealt damage when your DoTs ticked).  It just spices things up a bit, from our otherwise boring rotation.  Time will tell how good the set bonuses are, but since 4pc T9 wasn’t the strongest set bonus, I am sure that the great stat bonus by switching to T10 will merit the switch.

T10 Moonkin Relic

T10 Balance Druid Relic – The periodic damage from your Insect Swarm and Moonfire spells grants 44 critical strike rating for 15 sec. Stacks up to 5 times.

/YAWN.  Am I the only one that thinks this is pretty lame?  Sure — this idol will have a slightly higher uptime than our current i245 idol as well as 20 more crit, but man, that is LAME.  Actually, after checking my parses for a couple of kills, my uptime for the +200 crit buff on the idol is around 90%+!  This idol is kind of weak for a full tier upgrade.  We gain 20 more crit and a tad more uptime.  The only real reason I can see myself taking this is to help increase my gear score…

idol-uptime

Now that I am sort of on topic, is anyone else kind of bored with stats these days?  I remember awhile ago reading on Randomsmo’s blog about how switching from T8 to T9 helps pull us away from the soft crit cap. I currently have around 3k spell power when my trinkets are up, 840 crit rating (32% in form, 35% when idol is proc’ed), 400 haste, 236 hit (9%).  I guess I could use more haste even though I’ve already reached the soft cap, but I can’t lie — gearing is rather boring these days.  Just thought I’d throw that out there and see if anyone else feels the same way.

Let me know,

Ballerkin

Swindled Out of 10k Gold!

Happened a couple of weeks ago, but I grouped with a decently geared healer for something and trusted him enough to loan him 10k gold.  Dumb decision, maybe, but I’ve often gone out on limbs for people and its turned out just fine, so I gave the guy a chance.  I think, a lot of people tend to trust people that are more geared.  He was about full T9 — am I the only one that is more likely to loan gold to a geared player than a character in blues?

At any rate, looks like her server transferred or name changed or something.  Funny thing is, I have his cell phone number.  He sounds like he’s 12 years old so I feel kind of bad.  I ticketed it — so wish me luck!  If ticketing doesn’t work, I would LOVE to call his mom and handle it that way (LOL), so if anyone knows how to trace a location from a cell phone please do let me know.

Real post will happen shortly — I just had a midterm a couple of hours ago and it was not fun AT ALL :( .
