My Moonkin Ulduar Wishlist

EDIT – Good discussion on the BIS topic over at TMR – LINK

So, I haven’t officially taken the time to look at all the drops from Ulduar, and I have yet to look at the Tier 8.5 pieces.  I understand the goal is to get AT LEAST the 2 piece bonus, since it will provide a DPS increase, but from the looks of it 4 piece seems to be a waste of time.  That said, my wishlist is rather small for the time being, while more Ulduar drops are being found and while I decide how I am going to gear up.

I am really only pressed on a few upgrades.  Weapons and trinkets are usually great places to get ENORMOUS upgrades from previous gear, at least DPS wise.  Last night, for example, I led a Sarth25 + 2D pug.  [Unsullied Cuffs], which I have been wanting for a long time now, dropped, and I lost the roll.  I paid off the guy who won the roll 2,000 gold to pass them to me.  It is a tiny upgrade from the previous bracers I had (like 10 spell power lol), which IMO it was worth the 2k.

Anyways, since I haven’t had the chance to completely explore the loot currently available in Ulduar, feel free to comment with what you are expecting to pick up in Ulduar, that is better than pre-3.1 BIS gear.  Since most of my gear is currently BIS (at least it used to be), I am finding myself not rolling on any loot from the early Ulduar25 bosses.  I haven’t seen a piece of loot so far from the first 7 Ulduar25 bosses in the past two weeks that I have wanted to roll on.

Here’s what I am 100% positive that I want:

Weapon: [Soulscribe] – this thing is absolute God-mode.  Perfectly itemized for us, to boot.  What’s funny is that from the weapons I’ve seen on WoWHead, it may turn out that [Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings] could be our BIS weapon from Ulduar.  I mean, apart from the +equip effect, there really is nothing else to separate it from a great DPS weapon.  I doubt I’ll be equipping that mace anytime soon, however, so the dagger will have to suffice.

Trinkets: [Scale of Fates] and [Living Flame] look pretty awesome, but I don’t think they are BIS.  I like the Scale simply because of all the raw spell power, but I really like my [Eye of the Broodmother]. One thing I am pleased about, however, is that Blizzard seems to have finally realized that letting us actually chose when to activate our trinkets is much better than having them proc randomly.  Plus, these ones last 20 seconds, as opposed to other pre-3.1 trinkets with a 10 second duration.

Ring: [Frozen Loop] looks incredible.  From the other rings I saw, it looks like I may end up keeping my [Signet of Manifested Pain] for awhile, but then again, it was an awesome ring to have in the first place.

Bracers: As I mentioned before, I ended up getting my [Unsullied Cuffs] last night, which are pretty damned amazing, primarily due to the gem slot.  From the looks of it, the only Ulduar bracers that even come near are the [Bracers of Unleashed Magic], which actually are less spell power, but you gain a lot of hit (only really an upgrade if you needed the hit rating).

Boots: One thing that bothered me about pre-3.1 loot was that the BIS moonkin boots were only an iLevel of 213.  Being a WoW-Heroes whore myself, I was never happy with this.  Boots are something I would love to upgrade, and without doing the math or anything it looks like the [Boots of Fiery Resolution] are something I would love to equip.  Buttloads of spell power, 2 gem slots, and great stats; what’s not to want about them?

Belt: [Sash of Ancient Power] is what I want soulbound to me.  Socketed properly and not counting JC bonuses, it will give +116 spell power, which is better than the pre-3.1 BIS moonkin, [Leash of Heedless Magic].  Interestingly enough, its a craftable item, and from my experience in BC, items crafted from rare pattern drops are often pretty damned good.  I still recall using my Belt of Blasting all throughout T6 content.

Back: Comparing the [Drape of Mortal Downfall] to the pre-3.1 moonkin BIS, [Pennant Cloak], didn’t really show me too much.  I see a slight spell power gain, and simply switching out some haste for some crit.

Neck: I want the [Pendant of Fiery Havoc].  Its a clear upgrade to the previous BIS, [Wyrmrest Necklace of Power], it even has the same stats!  I don’t like the new socket color, however, as I have never equipped a yellow gem in my gear before in my life!

CONCLUSION

All in all, what you see above it pretty much the gear I’d like to get, not counting pieces that currently have Tier gear in them.  I haven’t researched or thought enough about what pieces of Tier 8.5 I want, or if I want the 4PC bonus or not.  Also remember that this is not really a BIS list, this is merely me checking out a few pieces I saw on WoWHead and saying this is what I want :P .  We haven’t even seen half of the available drops off Ulduar, so please keep that in mind.

I have my wishlist at home, though I don’t think the guild is anywhere close to being ready for Ulduar (let me correct that — we can down Flame Leviathan weekly). Nonetheless, I have my wishlist to refer to in the event that we progress. I only tend to roll on “conceivable” BiS items — items that are top-3 that we actually have a chance at getting.

Anyways, there has been much discussion about the 4T8 bonus. To be honest, I don’t think it’s worth it. It means I have to keep Insect Swarm up; it means that I could mess up my Eclipse rotations with an unlucky crit (never thought I’d use those two words together); and saving one second on a Starfire cast (after taking GCD into consideration) just doesn’t seem worth it. The 2T8 bonus, on the other hand… *drools*.

I’ll try to remember to throw my wishlist up here when I get home. I’m going for more crit than haste this time around. Because of the change to Nature’s Grace, I may only go for 8% haste from items (massively less than the 18% haste suggested pre-3.1).

Bracers – Bracers of Unleashed Magic
    Gloves – Handwraps of Resonance
    Belt – Flamewrought Cinch
    Pants – Conqueror’s Nightsong Trousers
Boots – Sandals of Rash Temperament
Ring – Signet of Manifested Pain

    Trinket – Scales of Fate
Trinket – Eye of the Broodmother

    12% haste

    825 Intellect

Only downside is the gems — 6 blue, 1 yellow, 1 meta.

@ Xiera — Not a bad list. I haven’t completed decided on mine, however I did pick up the Frozen Loop yesterday, because it was a huge upgrade to my +hit ring (Signet of the Malevolent).

What I am primarily concerned about is making sure I pick up the correct T8.5 pieces; it seems that the pants are definitely one piece we’ll want, and I’ve seen others dispute between the helm/shoulders.

I need to pick up more hit so I can unequip my Dying Curse…

Congrats on Frozen Loop, first off.

As for which T8 pieces to go for – that’s a good point. I think it would depend on what you would use there instead. I had considered using Mantle of the Eternal Sentinel (yes, the BoE from Sartharion), but the Collar of the Wyrmhunter was more appealing to me.

One interesting thing is that hit comes in big chunks on Ulduar gear, so it shouldn’t be *too* difficult to achieve hit cap. I still have more haste than I’d like, so I may have to find some gear that will allow me to replace it with crit.

Also, I didn’t mention it, but my list does not include Hard Mode items. I consider that a separate raid (in terms of progression), so I’ll worry about that when I get there.

    @ Xiera -

Thanks. Yeah, I have noticed that a lot of the gear has buttloads of hit (I saw a 10man Hodir drop CP with like 70+ hit on it!!).

I consider hard mode drops the same way, I really need to put together my actual Ulduar wishlist.

Congrats! I reviewed Graylo’s list and revised my own BiS list, notably changing my second T8 piece to gloves from shoulders. Hard to believe the BoE shoulders from Sar with no drakes is gonna be a BiS for me. :x

definitly decided with going for legs and hands. It just makes sense. Collar of the Wyrmhunter dropped and I passed on it because I was going for the head t8.5. I change my mind now because I realize the hands for t8.5 is a much much better choice. I don’t even worry about hit rating. The more the better. In fact right now, I’m rocking 365 hit rating because of the living flame trinket; hence I removed 2 point for Balance of Power and put them in improved moonfire. Yeah!

    @ Ishoro –

Lol. Since I got my belt, I’ve actually seen myself over hit cap as well, I’m currently working on replacing Dying Curse with a new trinket; maybe the Scale of Fates :-P

I just got my bracers of unleashed magic. Now from what I understand is I should be going for slightly more crit than haste because of the rotation in Ulduar which involves the Solar Eclipse. Self Buffed I am at 23% crit and 10.34% haste. I don’t worry about hit because of my staff Intensity which gives me 4.57 hit, my living flame which is 4.08% hit. In my opinion the T8.5 Gloves and Legs are the ones to go for, I was told to ignore the 4 set bonus. This is what I am going for.

    Head Collar of the Wyrmhunter
Neck Pendant of the Shallow Grave
    Shoulders Shoulderpads of Dormant Energies
Chest Robes of the Umbral Brute
    Waist Sash of Ancient Power

    Feet Boots of Fiery Resolution
    Wrist Unsullied Cuffs
    Hands Conqueror’s Nightsong Gloves
    Finger1 Signet of Manifested Pain
    Finger2 Frozen Loop
Trinket1 Illustration of the Dragon Soul
    Trinket2 Living Flame
    Back Drape of Mortal Downfall
