Moonkin + Resto Shammy = Win in 2’s Arena
Like I said earlier, I’ve never done much of any sort of PvP. BG grinding is pretty boring, I am pretty fail at Arena; my current PvP set consists of no more than some gloves and bracers, and my Brightbrew Charm (+45 stam is FTW!). But, since there is really only 1 raid to run, one must resort to other things to pass the time in WoW.
Last night, I did some 2s with a resto shammy who I also do 3’s with. I have never spec’ed for PvP, but I did last night, and here is what I picked up:
- Brambles: An all around great PvP talent IMO. Thorns was already doing 230+ damage, so an extra 75% increase to its damage should make it hit for at least 400 per hit I take. 15% increase damaged to my Treants, and a chance to make Treants and Barkskin stun targets. Pure win.
- Nature’s Focus: 70% Reduced pushback to most spells we were going to cast. Easily worth the points.
- Owlkin Frenzy: Correct me if I’m wrong, but this spell either has no CD, or if it does, its so small I can’t notice it. It may only say 15% chance to proc, but I feel like this bad boy procs so much more. Definitely what I would consider a must have for PvPing, I put 3/3.
- Typhoon and Starfall: Two abilities which I usually never pick up for PvE, they are quite good for PvP. Starfall is exceptionally fun, since you can simply hit the button at the beginning of the fight, and let it go. No, it doesn’t bring rogues out of stealth anymore, though. Typhoon, being our only real pushback/interrupt spell is also a must have for some free, instant cast damage.
- Eclipse: As well as a must have for PvE, I found it awesome to have in PvP. Combine this with Owlkin Frenzy and Barkskin, and you can still cast some Starfire’s without being interrupted. You should easily be able to nuke through a healer’s heals when this procs.
My Simple Strategy
So, me and this shammy got our 2’s to 1600 our fight time doing two’s in WoTLK. As I mentioned earlier, I’m in full PvE epics, and he was in a good bit of PvP gear. After buffing up (DONT FORGET THORNS), I would go Kitty stealth. Ideally, since my partner had all the resil, he could take more damage than me. The only exception where I would pop out of kitty and go straight to moonkin form is if there was a rogue on the opposing team. A rogue will always find you before you find them, so just go moonkin form for the armor bonus.
Once 1-2 of the targets were beating up on my shammy, I would pop out of kitty form by popping Treants, and setting to agressive. Immediately afterwards I popped Starfall and Typhoon, and proceeded to nuke. If a rogue started hitting me, I would Barkskin, and the healer was able to keep me up. Of course, the healer would pop Heroism at the beginning of the fight, and that was pure win.
We always went for the healer first, and I was usually able to burn down most healers, including pallys, faster than they knew how to react (ie – most pallies didn’t even have a chance to bubble).
I hope this combination continues to carry on for awhile, I haven’t enjoyed doing Arena this much, in, since, I guess ever.
As with my last post, please let me know if you have any tips, constructive criticism. I know my current “PvP Spec” is whack, I happened to spec while a Horde raid was coming into SW (and I was in SW), so I didn’t get the full 3/3 Eclipse as I wanted to. I’ll fix it later.
Here’s an image of my current Arena team ratings, its nothing special, but I’m proud of it so far:
