Making Gold the ‘Baller’ (kin) Way
What I’m looking for from you guys are some of the ways you make gold, preferably by selling things on the AH. I’m going to share a few of the items that I sell consistently that keep my gold stash growing, even though raiding (enchants, flasks, repair bills) are very costly. Obviously the profit margin varies significantly per your server’s economy, but the server I am currently on is a high population server (actually, Illidan is FULL), so that generally means that while things may sell for cheaper, they sell at a faster rate.
I am by no means an expert gold maker, I know people at gold cap (200k+), and even a few people with several toons at gold cap. Still, based on the minimal amount of time I take each day to make gold, I am pleased with my results. Feel free to share your experience in flipping/selling items on the AH in the comments section below — trust me, only about 1k or so people read this blog a day, and there are over 13million WoW players. There is enough gold to be made by us all
That said, below are a few of the items I sell continuously:
Brilliant Spellthread & Sapphire Spellthread
Whether you are on a high population or a brand new server, these should sell like hot cakes all the time. Why? Every single caster has to choose between either one of these two, unless they are a Tailor. Easy enough. The mats are as simple as: 4x Eternal Fire (for Sapphire), or 4x Eternal Life (for Brilliant), 1x Frozen Orb, and 4x Iceweb Spider Silk. The eternals can cost you anywhere from 15g-30g each, the Frozen Orbs are down to about 20g each. The Iceweb Spider Silk, however, is a little trickier to find. The prices are often inflated, but average around 5g each on the AH. If you really want to keep your margins low — go out and farm a ton of this. I think there is a cave near the Hodir dailies place to farm this. Either way, let’s say you pay 20g for each of the eternals (80g) + 20g for the Frozen Orb + 20g for the 4x Iceweb Spider Silk, your cost per spellthread is 120g. Check the prices on your server, but Brilliant usually stays at about 180g/each on my server, and Sapphire is usually 200g+. Easy money for very little effort, and very little risk of losing your gold.
Wispcloak Selling
Ah. The Wispcloak. Easy enough of a pattern to obtain (I think you only have to do all the Northrend Heroics), and depending on your server, can either suck to sell or make you rich. Back on Stormscale, I made a KILLING selling these, and that’s back when the mats could easily cost me 500g-700g (Siren’s Tear were VERY expensive in T7 content). During T8 content, these stopped selling on my old, medium population server, and I stopped selling them.
However, in Illidan, I’m pushing a couple of these a week, never having more than 1 on the AH at any given time. They mats are super cheap (6x Eternal Life = around 120g; 1x Frozen Orb = 20g; 4x Eternal Water = around 20g; and some Imbued Frostweave [75 Frostweave, 10 Infinite Dust]). Fortunately, I am a Tailor/Enchanter, so I already have tons of Frostweave and Dust sitting around in my inventory, so I can produce these for around 160g or so, and easily flip them every 1-2 days for 700g+. Damn good profit, if I do say so myself. Keep in mind you can still get Wispcloaks and the spellthreads crafted by even if you are not a Tailor – just make friends or check your guild for a Tailor!
Flask Selling
I am not an alchemist (or herbalist), but I still flip flasks, from time to time. Usually, the goal is not to make money when I sell flasks, but to see if I can make enough flasks and sell some to keep 1 stack of flasks for free. And usually I manage to do just that.
I’m not going to go into too much detail here – but it all really depends on the price of Frost Lotus on your server. Flasks on my server go for about 25-30g each, and Frost Lotus is usually 35g+. Since you get 2 flasks for every Frost Lotus + other mats, the goal is to make sure the other mats cost you less than 25g. Let’s say flasks are 30g each, and I spend 50g to make one (not hard to do). It won’t be difficult to make those 50g back by selling the two flasks, but, proc’s are really what’s important. I honestly don’t care if I make 10g from selling a few flasks — I want to see flask proc’s that make 10 flasks instead of 2, or something insane like that.
And it happens.
Flask making is a gamble, but you usually won’t lose money anyways. Last time I bought enough mats to make 20 flasks, and walked away with 44 flasks. I sold about 24 of them, kept 20 for myself, and still MADE GOLD. Awesomeness.
Conclusion
Anyways, that’s really the bulk of what I continually sell. I step into a couple of other markets sometimes, sell Crusader Orbs or even buy and sell BoEs, but these are my consistent endeavors that keep my gold stash growing. If you guys have any items that have yielded you success consistently, let me know
. I’m trying to hit 100k gold in my inventory before 2010, and hopefully I won’t have anymore setbacks like losing 10k gold to a 12 year old or anything like that.
Adios,
Ballerkin/Macbook

Transmuting gems. I buy the untransmuted ones on the AH for 5-50g, depending on the color, transmute them, and sell them for 140-180g, and they sell as fast as I can post them. The eternals needed range in price, but they're easy enough to farm or buy at volume discounts.
Depending on what hes talking about, probably buying greens + eternals to make metas, and that doesnt have any cooldown at all.
Transmuting as well, I try to stick to yellow gems because I end up with so many eternal life from farming herbs and a yellow gem runs about 10g on my server. Turn around and sell it for 130g onece a day. And frost lotus on Arygos rarely go for under 60g so an hour of farming and a little luck can make quite a bit.
Yeah – they are 45g each today – I think it depends on day of the week you buy your stuff.
Everything raid-related is super inflated on Tuesdays on my server.
As an enchanter/leatherworker I can make a steady income by buying any Borean Leather off the AH posted for 7g or less, craft it into Arctic Boots and then DE the boots for stacks of Infinite Dust and essences that sell on my server for 3g and 15g per, respectively. Obviously even more gold could be made with a skinner alt or buying in bulk from a guildie/direct seller. Hope this is of use to someone
I recently found that prospecting the craploads of farmed Saronite yields alot of gems, then I use those gems (Sun Crystal, Huge Citrine etc) to create high lvl green rings or necklaces, and then DE those items. (The higher lvl gems (Sky Sapphire, Scarlet Ruby etc) get sold on AH
The result is you get lots of Infinite dust and other enthanting mats which sell for way more than saronite on my server.
Over the weekend I made 2k gold just off that, and I still have 1/2 the mats to sell. I spent about 1k to buy some more saronite and Eternal Earth, so I'd say that makes for a good profit margin.
The Saronite Ore market on my server is screwy at the moment, people are selling the stacks of 20 for between 12 – 15 gold, where it used to be 19 or more. I think maybe it's time to drop mining and take something else, just not sure what yet. I can just buy out the cheap saronite ore and keep going with the prospecting and DE'ing.
Recently, as a JCer, I've been buying uncut gems from the AH/trade then selling cut versions. I've been making around 75g profit per gem.
ez way of getting money for me is buying epic gems for honor/emblems and then sell them on AH (uncut).
blue ones (bought for 10k honor) sell for 150g, and the others (10 emblems) sell for about 120 g.
ez way of getting money while raiding or pvping a lot, got max rep a week ago, bought gems and I sell gems faster then I can buy them. easily make 700g a week, even though i'm only active like 5h / week.
Where do you buy the gems form the max rep? Thank you
As alliance you buy them from the Stormwind Hall of whats a face.
Its directly east of the trade district and south of the dwarven district.
Sorry im aufull with names!
Its deff a great way to spend honor if you are at the cap and have nothing to spend it on. The other way to get gems is with emblems of heroism. You can get them of the heroism vendor. If you have no use for your Triumphs / Conquests / Valors just convert em down and buy buy buy!!
this blog sucks
Sent from my iPhone
idd. The honor vendor is at the rogue trainer (nearby at least) in old town.
As a Tailor/enchanter, i usually end up with TONS of frostweave. Just make some lvl 75 tailor stuff -> Disenchant it and sell the enchanting mats on ah
there is also the Crusader enchant, although this depends on the prices of ur server, i end up making around 100g pr day selling theese scrolls on ah.
There is also the Spellweave/Ebonweave, which usually sells for 200g +
although these arent my major income sources, everything helps
I abuse my flight form speed (310%) to farm herbs and use one of my alt which is potion master for haste/wild magic/mana potion. Since they are stackable up to 20
people drink them like water. I can do a 3 Hours of herbs gathering, I save the frost lotus to make flasks from an elixir master mate so I can possibly end that 3 hours with almost 1k when im lucky.
Overcharged Capacitors. Im and engineer on one of my toons and never see anyone besides myself post these on the AH. I sell them anywhere from 15 ot 20G a pop and given that theres a certain quest ( i dont recall off the top the name) that uses them they sell like hotcakes. Mats are cheap and easy to get.
What up Mac-Cheese, its Burneemac/lilscarecrow. SUPER easy ways to make gold (at least still on stormscale).
#1-
1.) You can buy stacks of Saronite ore for around 15g.
2.) Smelt all the stacks you buy into bars.
3.) Get an alchemist to transmute them into titanium bars (8 saronite bars = 1 titanium bar)
4.) Titanium bars sell for about 22g on SS, so for each stack you buy you get 7g+2 saronite bars profit. So basically for ever 8 stacks of saronite ore you buy, you get a "free" titanium bar. While the profit margin isnt HUGE, it is definitely consistent.
#2-
Epic gems- Huge market for epic gems and also A LOT of compitition, unless u post the right things. The market will always be flooded with Strength, SP, and Agi gems (red). I dont even mess with those. Yellow gems are the way to go. Usually you can get kings amber for alot less than the cardinal rubies. The three yellow cuts to focus on are Haste, Hit, and Crit. Every toon needs all these stats (with the obvious exception of healers and hit). So what you have just landed in is a smaller supply market with a much broader demand.
#3. Have an abundance of Emblems of triumph? Dont buy crusader orbs with them, GET RUNED ORBS!!! There are ppl freshly hitting 80 on alts everyday. They have alot of gold and want out of those blues ASAP. The key to this is crafted boots, There is a crappy ilvl 200 pair, the Ulduar 226 crafted pair, and then icc crafted pair. If your fresh to 80 the most appealing/realistic to get are the ulduar crafted pair. And while there is always an influx of Crusader Orbs on Ah ah for about 100-150 each, there are hardly and runed orbs, except mine, that i sell for 200-250 each consistently. Hope these help yo broke azz.
