1400 Spell Power – Boo Yah
So, before I start, and even though the title is pretty self-explanatory, I thought I’d just thank my readers so far. This blog was only recently started, but already, I’m receiving over 100 unique people daily. Around 7% of you guys are coming in from search engines, another 5% or so are coming in from other blogs/websites, and the rest of you are coming in directly to the site. So thanks
Anyways, as the title states, I’ve just crossed the threshold of 1400 spell power, without being level 80 yet. I’m actually level 79, and I probably would have been 80 by last week, but I’ve been incredibly busy at work lately. I’ve replaced only a few things since the expansion; primarily: chest, ring, cloak, neck. A lot of added spell power came from newer enchants, such as +50 spell power to weapon, +19 spell power to each ring, etc.
My Current Talent Build is 54/0/16
If you’re interested, the above link takes you to my armory page to see exactly what I specced in. I’m a huge fan of Master Shapeshifter: not only is it 4% extra damage, the 2 added buff icons it gives next to your name make it look cool
Apart from that, I think I’ve already covered most of my talent build; and I know its not much of a soloing build, seeing as how I didn’t pick up Eclipse, I have only 1 point in Owklin Frenzy, 0 points in Brambles, etc.
Typhoon – I’ve changed my mind
When the new talents first came out — I was a fan of Typhoon. Then, when myself and other moonkins used it in a raid setting, people got pissed, so I stopped speccing in it.
Now that I’m back levelling, I love it. As I think I’ve read somewhere else before, its a great “Oh Shit” button, but I use it primarily for something else. When I was levelling 1-70, most of the mobs I faced were melee mobs, where I could simply: A) Nuke them before they reached me, B) Roots them then nuke them before they reached me.
One thing I’ve noticed in WoTLK is that many, many mobs are casters. It was always my opinion that Moonkins are more equipped for fighting against melee classes, while mages where better against other caster classes. I mean, Moonkins hardly have any defenses against casters compared to mages. Mages can spell steal, counter spell, iceblock, and other stuff, while I can basically only Shadowmeld (and only if your Alliance), to avoid getting hit by a spell. We can’t silence, and we have very few spells to interrupt casting.
Fortunately, Typhoon interrupts spells. As a matter of fact, its probably the only spell I have (apart from the 15% of Starfire to stun a mob) that can help me avoid getting hit by a spell. The only thing you have to remember is that Typhoon does have a travel time, so you want to make sure to cast it earlier than you would a Starfire or something, so that it gets there on time.
At any rate, this post was kind of all over the place, so I apologize for that, but let me know what you guys think of my build (I have a few tweaks to make before its ready to raid), and what your builds are. Also, check out the new poll if you haven’t already, and maybe make a post on the Forums, its pretty quiet over there.
Thanks for reading,

For leveling, Typhoon is still mainly an AoE (or an instant finisher).
For a single target it does less damage than Wrath, and it costs more mana than Wrath+Rejuvenation (not counting your shapeshift back to Moonkin). Unless that spell you interrupted was going to do 3k damage (which is about what my Rejuv can heal), Typhoon is a very expensive interrupt.
For your Mana post:
I’m 58/0/8 at 75 (headed towards 58/0/13). I have 3/3 Moonglow and 1/3 Dreamstate.
At LK release I had between 15 and 20 BC water. I’m now down to my last one or two. So, I’ve used about three water per level (plus two or three mana potions, total).
I usually use bandages for healing (and I’m still making them faster than I’m using them). If I’m shifting out anyway (to ride someplace), I’ll throw a rejuv or lifebloom.
I’m still running in mostly S2 gear. That does a good job of reducing the damage I take (less mana spent healing). The 4-piece Wyrmhide also means I get to occasionally cast a fast Starfire (mana efficient, and mob dies faster, meaning I take less damage).
I am a skinner, so that does give me a little bit more time outside the five-second-rule between pulls, on average.
Somehow the link is not there? – I don’t seem to be able to access it.
@ Erdluf — Yeah, Typhoon is a huge mana consumer, but there actually have been mobs lately hitting me for 3k shadow damage, so I think Typhoon is saving me mana, plus, I’ll usually pull around 2 mobs in one or more, roots one, and my Typhoon hits multiple targets as well as interrupting them all. I’m loving it for soloing.
Grats on not using that much water, and also grats on levelling your bandages. I’m a Tailor, so I’ve been using all that Frostweave to level it up and get that Flying Carpet mount. I never got my First Aid past 225 (fail).
And yes, I probably should have used more PvP in my levelling, but I guess I didn’t think of it
@ Aju – Yeah, somethings wrong with my link, and I forgot the password to login to edit stuff (its saved on my other computer somewhere).
You can find me though by just searching for “Macbook”, I should be the first result, on server Stormscale.
I’ll try to fix that link tomorrow.

Looked at your spec. Some thoughts-
1. How beneficial is Owlkin Frenzy? Seems to be like a PVP stat. Is it useful in raids (with the 5% proc rate?).
2. Is Starfall too situational to be worth taking?
3. Improved FF. Many discussions has said that taking improved FF is a waste because the raid debuffs will usually override it. However for 5mans + 10 mans purposes – does it make sense to take it for the + Crit?
Aju — I’ll reply to this in my next post.
Thanks for your continuous comments/questions. It helps me come up with stuff to write about
